AC31 and previous series software
AC31 and previous series (e.g. Sigmatronic, Procontic) are obsolete and were replaced by the AC500 PLC platform.
The Advant Controller 31 series 40-50 offered small and compact PLCs with central and decentralized extensions. The Advant Controller 31 series 90 offered powerful PLCs for challenging applications with various configuration options and up to five communication interfaces. The PLC provided 60 I/Os internally and could be expanded decentrally. The combination of integrated communication fieldbus allowed to connect the PLC to several protocols like e.g. Ethernet, PROFIBUS DP, ARCNET or CANopen.
Both AC31 series 40 and 50 utilized the same AC31GRAF software which conformed to the IEC61131-3 standard. AC31 series 90 utilized the 907 AC 1131 programming software, also developed in accordance with IEC61131-3.
The Advant Controller AC31-S was available for safety-related applications. It was based on the time-proven system structure of the AC31 series 90 variant.

Wireless input/output modules
The WDIO wireless input/output module acts as a base station or access point and connects the wireless I/O signals from the field or machine to a PLC or controller via ABB´s FieldBusPlug devices. Supported by the FieldBusPlug are the following protocols: DeviceNet, PROFIBUS, Modbus, CANopen.
Several WDIO modules can be operated in the same area, in total resulting in the following performance:
- Expandable:
up to 39 I/O pads with 624 sensors/actuators in a small area with e.g. 3 wireless input/output modules (base stations).
- Fast: 2 ms cycle time on radio path.
- Determinism is constant whether one or 624 sensors/actuators are in use.
- Range/power is limited to enable the multiple reuse of the band in a larger factory hall and for excellent coexistence with other wireless technologies to be used in parallel: 5 – 15m (typically 10m).

Wireless sensor/actuator interfaces
Wireless sensor/actuator interfaces are the field devices with integrated wireless. They connect signals from the field to the WDIO wireless I/O modules (base stations).
- WIOP devices are available with M12 or M8 sockets and have 24V power supply.
- The WSIX (single sensor) and the WSP (up to 8 sensors) have the wireless power supply option, which needs the wireless primary power supply WPU and the wireless primary loop cable WPC to emit the weak magnetic field used for wireless power supply.

Wireless power supplies
The power supply unit WPU drives the necessary current through the WPC wireless power loop cables acting as a loop antenna.
- All it needs as additional external connection is a 110-230V socket.
- The sinusoidal, non-modulated current flowing through the special WPC wireless power loop cables emits the weak magnetic field in its proximity to power wireless devices.
- If the cables are arranged in loops, similar to anti-theft systems in ware houses, an energized volume in its proximity exists.
